Optimist International Essay Contest

The Optimist Essay Contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. This year's topic is "I'm Unique Because...".

The essay contest is a wonderful opportunity to recognize students in our area for their writing abilities. It gives them an opportunity to express their own views on a specific topic.

Awards:

  • Club Winner- Medallion, $100, and advancement to District competition.
  • District Winner - Plaque, $650 scholarship, an opportunity to read their winning essay at the third quarter District meeting and advancement to National competition
  • International - Scholarships: First Place $5,000; Second Place $3,000; Third Place $2,000. In addition to the scholarship, the First Place winner receives an all expense-paid trip with his/her parents to the annual Optimist International Convention.


New 2005/2006 Contest Deadline is February 15, 2006

Eligibility:

The contest is open to students:

  • Under the age of 19 as of December 31 of the current school year
  • Educated in the U.S., Canada, or the Carribean
  • Attending grades 10. 11. or 12
  • Entrants to the Bloomington, MN contest must live in Bloomington or attend a Bloomington high school. Students living elsewhere should visit www.optimist.org for information on clubs in your area.
