Judicial Filibusters: History, Benefits and Costs

Basis of Judging
Each essay will be judged on the basis of the clarity, persuasiveness, and logic of the argument the author makes.
Grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation will also be weighed in the judges’ decision.

Guidelines
Maximum length is 1,500 words. Essays must be typed and double spaced with endnotes. Each essay must be
submitted with an entry form. Entries limited to high school juniors and seniors in the Bay Area. For examples

Judges & Awards
A panel of business faculty from California State University, Hayward will judge the entries. Winners will be notified
on or before June 3, 2006. The winners, their parents, and the sponsoring teacher will be invited to
attend the Awards Luncheon on June 15, 2006, where the prizes will be awarded.

DEADLINE: 5:00 PM, Friday, May 5, 2006. Anything received after the deadline will be disqualified.
